Shannon & Jermaine – Wedding

I admit I’m partial to outdoor weddings and Shannon & Jermaine’s wedding day saw some of the most gorgeous weather of the year. The ceremony was held in Wake Forest at the beautiful Sutherland.

I admit my favorite part of the wedding day is nearly always pre-ceremony, when I get to hang out with the bride and her ladies. The ceremony itself is a close second – I am particularly fond of outdoor ceremonies and for this one in particular I had the most beautiful light to work with!

Shannon & Jermaine – Engagement Session

It was a beautiful sunlit afternoon that I first met Shannon and Jermaine for their engagement session on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill. As an alumni of the university, Shannon was familiar with the lay of the land and enthusiastic about having their engagement session on the old stomping grounds. And as you can see, the sunshine flooding through the trees gave us some beautiful soft light to work with.

Terry & Rick – Wedding

They wanted an outdoor wedding – simple yet romantic. For friends and family who gathered at Grace Court on August 9th, 2009, it was a beautiful declaration of their love for each other. For Rick and Terry, the couple who found each other through Match.com, it was destiny.

Caleb & Savannah

Caleb and Savannah are definite cutie-pies! I was quite taken by Caleb’s handsome smile and Savannah’s blue eyes. I wish I had photos of myself with my sister at this age – maybe someday Caleb and Savannah will look back and be able to see themselves in a time they cannot remember.

That’s the power of photography.

Carmen & Kyle – Engagement Session in D.C.

Tuesday, we packed up for a fast-paced photoshoot at the Capitol in Washington D.C. I’ve known Carmen a long time – 10 years ago we attended the same church in Columbia, MO and we’ve kept in touch over the years. I was thrilled to hear of her engagement, and also to learn that she was living close by in Northern VA near D.C. Carmen’s fiancee, Kyle, is in the military and is being activated shortly.

This engagement session was one of those that reaffirmed that photography is indeed what I want to spend the rest of my life doing. It was honestly probably the easiest session I’ve ever had – Carmen and Kyle completely worked off each other’s energy and it was almost as if I were not even present. Simply put, the enthusiasm and playfulness of this couple made for some amazing and innovative moments!

We had to book the shoot for earlier in the day and were dealing with harsh sunlight for the most part, but as you can see, we worked around it. We did have some beautiful clouds hovering over the Library of Congress, which we obviously used as a backdrop.

We also got to take photos on the steps of the Capitol – a restricted area. However, Kyle knew someone who works there and a kind security guard took it upon himself to call him up and ask for clearance to let us get a few shots.

Grayson – portrait session

Yesterday afternoon, I met Grayson and his parents for a photoshoot at Cedarock’s Historical Farm. It was a beautiful afternoon and we had the place entirely to ourselves. Grayson was completely relaxed in front of the camera – and take a look at those golden curls! I am envious!

Photo Session with Connie

On Tuesday, Connie and I met for a fun photo session at the Glencoe Paddle Access near Glencoe Mills. Connie was a natural in front of the camera and very brave about wading right into the Haw River in order to get the best shot!

Brittany’s Bridals

On Thursday, I met Brittany at Tanglewood to shoot her bridal portraits. This beautiful bride was fun, extremely easy going and ready to try just about anything once! Although it was a cloudy day, the rain held off and at the end of our session we were treated to a lovely pink sunset that completed our fairytale view!
